Mustaches, Beards, and the Clean Shaven...

| | Comments (0)

The WashingtonPost.com is pointing out there are three main groups (besides the Kurds) looking for power in post-war Iraw. Some to keep your eyes on...
The Mustaches
General Najib Al Salhi, leader of the Free Officers Movement, with "friends" at the Penagon
General Nizar Al Khazraji, 64, Sunni, former Chief of Staff supported by Saudi Arabia and Egypt
General Mustafa Al Naqib, 70, former Deputy Chief of Staff
The Beards
Ayatollah Mohammed Baqer Hakim Tabatabai, Islamic Revolution in Iraq, backed by Iran
Ayatollah Mohammed Bahr Al Olum, Dawa, backed by Syria and some Iranian clergy
Grand Ayatollah Ali Mohammed Sistani, the leading Shiite theologian, is trying to develop a moderate group
The Clean Shaven
Politicians who enjoy the backing of different factions within the US like Ahmad Chalabi

Things are very much up in the air. Iranian shiite infiltrators, swirling shiite factions, sunni fears, Kurd nationalistic desires, secularism, pro and anti-iranian/syrian/US/Saudi (you pick), and the desires of the 800lb gorilla on the block (the US).

Welcome to Democracy.
