Memorial Day Roundup...Remember
This drawing was created by a 17-year old high school student named
Eliza Gauger in the wake of Sept 11th. She said she was illustrating
her own mother's willingness to do anything- even something she hated,
like guns- to protect her children

I Remember 9-11 and the anger I felt. I haven't forgotten.
Marine awarded MoH at 17 now gravely ill
Must of been a tough little fuck...join the jarheads at 14 and get thru
bootcamp, attack Iwo at 17, then jump on a grenade, survive, and live
to 80. He passed last June. I remember the tough old-school guys who were the Dads of my friends growing up. We don't deserve to shine the shoes of that generation.
Then there was Great Uncle Leo, fresh off the boat and joins the army...just in time for the Spanish American War.

I remember how immigrants did everything they could to assimilate in their new country. There is no such thing on the planet as a better culture than ours. Moral equivalence my ass.
...and dear old Dad.

Memorial Day...remember.
The photo above reminds me of how my brother and I, while being yelled at by my Dad, would slowly lean to the right to get in line with his broken nose. He would sputter and my Mom would piss herself laughing. I miss them both.
