North Korea Threatens to Launch Missile at Hawaii
There was a time that launching a missile at the US would have gotten a reaction other than a strongly-worded 0pology.

...coming to a house of horror near you.

If it comes to that, I'm taking a few with me.

Look, the murdering rightwing death-cult killed a sweet abortion doctor. His only so-called crime was crushing the skulls of late-term fetus' and pulling them piecemeal out of the mother. And oh, bye the by, I'm inviting my good friend Iranian Nazi Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has been funding the insurgency in Iraq and is directly responsible for the deaths of many soldiers, over to the White House for a July 4th barbecue.

It would be embarrassing to highlight his Muslim background or his possible training as a terrorist overseas would be inconvenient on the eve of Obama's big speech in Cairo to the Muslim world.
And so Obama and others in his administration are all too happy to ignore the outrageous murder of an innocent soldier in America while condemning the outrageous murder of an abortion doctor in a church. The latter won't affect Muslim relations with the U.S.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:
We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).
We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .
You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.
We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.
We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.
You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.
Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Remember this one.
Why is the Obama Justice Department protecting New Black Panthers?
"In my opinion, the men created an intimidating presence at the entrance to a poll," he declared. "In all my experience in politics, in civil rights litigation and in my efforts in the 1960s to secure the right to vote in Mississippi ... I have never encountered or heard of another instance in the United States where armed and uniformed men blocked the entrance to a polling location."
Mr. Bull said the "clear purpose" of what the Panthers were doing was to "intimidate voters with whom they did not agree." He also said he overheard one of the men tell a white poll watcher: "You are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker."
He called their conduct an "outrageous affront to American democracy and the rights of voters to participate in an election without fear." He said it was a "racially motivated effort to limit both poll watchers aiding voters, as well as voters with whom the men did not agree."

A Slam Dunk - Caught on Tape - You would think So. m'Bonga's people had the DOJ dismiss the case. A case that was won already in April.
The department was "successful in obtaining an injunction that prohibits the defendant who brandished a weapon outside a Philadelphia polling place from doing so again,"* spokesman Alejandro Miyar said. "Claims were dismissed against the other defendants based on a careful assessment of the facts and the law."
Mr. Miyar declined to elaborate about any internal dispute between career and political
officials.
*He can't have a gun at a polling place for three years. Just in time for the next election, and he already knows he can get away with it.

The m'Bonga Destroy America Plan.
1. Proposed more spending than any president in history.
2. Come to the sudden realization, "Gee, we're out of money".
3. Raise Income Tax on everyone.
4. Eliminate "tax break" on health benefits.
5. Close all evil loopholes.
6. VAT
7. Backdoor carbon tax via Cap-n-trade.
8. Implement various "sin" taxes (soda pop, alcohol, tabacco, etc., etc.)

In a special news conference yesterday, Government Motors announced its new concept car...
The new GM (Government Motors) proudly introduces the 2010 Obama...
This car runs on hot air and broken promises. It has three wheels that speed the vehicle through tight left turns.
It comes complete with two Teleprompters programmed to help the occupants talk their way out of any violations.
The transparent canopy reveals the plastic smiles still on the faces of all the "happy" Democrat owners.

Is it possible for this idiot to be any more insensitive? Are the inmates in charge of the asylum? Does anyone there in Rainbow-HappyChange World even give a minutes thought to what results their actions might have? Will a day go by without this illegal immigrant proving once again what a tone-deaf moron he is? Will the adults ever take over?
Isn't it fabulous how Obama has reconciled with our enemies and put fear into the hearts of Americans? Does any image illustrate so neatly the wrongheadedness of the Obama administration than Americans scrambling in terror from Air Force One? - Tantor on Ace

I can get embarrassed or uncomfortable if I am subjected to an over-the-top right wing screed. I can disagree with Rush if I think he goes too far. Actually he lost me big-time during the election pushing Romney as a conservative.
Screed is the default setting for moonbats, and as they wallow happily in that slime on prime-time news, there obviously isn't much that makes them uncomfortable...witness the current MSM 'tea-bagging' meme. They never disagree with anything over-the-top. The more outlandish the better.
What really disgusting people.

On my Samsung Gravity Cell Phone.

Here was the one I used the past couple of weeks:

"I can make a firm pledge," he [O'bonga] said in Dover, N.H., on Sept. 12. "Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."
He repeatedly vowed "you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime."
Now in office, Obama, who stopped smoking but has admitted he slips now and then, signed a law raising the tobacco tax nearly 62 cents on a pack of cigarettes, to $1.01. Other tobacco products saw similarly steep increases.
Here was the one I used the past couple of weeks:

THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES
It's high time to stop the media fawning over our emperor like arrogant President.
The media has covered for this false prophet long enough.
The truth is as follows:
1. Obama rammed through a trillion dollar 'stimulus' bill with little or no debate.
2. Obama's 'stimulus' bill is loaded with earmarks and pork and crushing regulation.
3. Obama isn't the slightest bit serious about deficit reduction.
4. Obama has appointed a guy to head the treasury who didn't pay his taxes.
5. Obama has attempted to appoint three other cabinet members who didn't pay taxes.
6. Obama's attorney general pardoned terrorists and a millionaire fugitive.
7. Obama hasn't a clue how to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb.
8. Obama's 'tax cuts' for people who don't pay taxes are welfare checks.
9. Obama is a divider and pits class against class and race against race.
10. Obama did nothing in his years in the Senate to reform Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
11. Obama inspires people not to help themselves but rather to depend on him.
12. Obama has spread panic and fear by preaching doom and gloom.
13. Obama opposed the surge in Iraq.
14. Obama, when he worked for ACORN, pushed banks into making bad loans.
15. Obama has promised to bankrupt the coal industry.
16. Obama hasn't shown serious interest in drilling for new oil.
17. Obama appeals to people's basest emotions to punish the rich.
18. Obama's inauguration was the most expensive in history.
19. Obama can't cite specifically the supposed Bush 'deregulation' he blames.
20. Obama isn't serious about bipartisanship and rams his plans through Congress.
21. Obama has proposed raising taxes in a recession to crush achievers and job creators.
22. Obama is working to nationalize the banks.
23. Obama is working to nationalize health insurance companies.
24. Obama is driven by anger and rage at businesses.
25. Obama used cocaine in the past.
26. Obama worked hard to get Blagoyevich elected twice.
27. Obama is on the verge of releasing terrorists staying at Gitmo.
28. Obama has called the Saudi King 'courageous'.
29. Obama is pushing for the end to secret ballots in union elections.
30. Obama is allowing Dick Durbin to impose censorship through 'diversity' regs.
31. Obama, despite pledging not to do so, has numerous lobbyists in his staff.
32. Obama has strong associations with Rashid Khalidi, the former PLO spokesman.
33. Obama's proposed budget is the largest in US history.
34. Obama proposes raising capital gains taxes which will crush business.
35. Obama's cap and trade plan amounts to further crushing taxation on job creators.
36. Obama has endeavored to politicize the census.
37. Obama policies will cheat minorities because they will damage the economy.
38. Obama resisted John McCain's attempt to reform Fannie and Freddie in 2005.
39. Obama did nothing in the Senate to prevent the current crisis.
40. Obama has created a cult of personality about himself.
41. Obama opposes missile defense despite Iran and North Korea having missiles.
42. Obama rarely uses specifics but showers us frequently with rhetoric.
43. Obama has rammed through burdensome regulatory changes to HIPAA.
44. Obama has rammed through poorly drafted changes to COBRA.
45. Obama isn't serious about promoting nuclear power.
46. Obama isn't serious about reducing dependence on foreign oil.
47. Obama attempted to humiliate the private citizen Joe the Plumber.
48. Obama rewards failure in his policies and bailout proposals.
49. Obama favors raising gas prices and gas taxes.
50. Obama seeks to become the most powerful US President in history.
It's high time therefore for the media to start seeing this guy for who he is and to stop covering for him. He is a false hope. He is not entitled to a pass merely because he is black. It is not rhetoric but substance that matters. Martin Luther King would not have wanted the first black President to be coddled merely because he is black. If we are to get to a color blind society, both blacks and whites must be judged equally on substance.
Enough fawning and slobbering over him. The truth is our emperor has no clothes.
Thanx to another guy a work who shall remain nameless

With almost no public attention, both chambers of Congress in the past week advanced an alarming expansion of the Americorps national service plan, with the number of federally funded community service job increasing from 75,000 to 250,000 at a cost of $5.7 billion. Lurking behind the feel-good rhetoric spouted by the measure's advocates is a bill that on closer inspection reveals multiple provisions that together create a strong odor of creepy authoritarianism. The House passed the measure overwhelmingly, while only 14 senators had the sense and courage to vote against it on a key procedural motion. Every legislator who either voted for this bill or didn't vote at all has some serious explaining to do.
Last summer, then-candidate Barack Obama threw civil liberties to the wind when he proposed "a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the regular military. The expanded Americorps is not quite so disturbing, but a number of provisions in the bill raise serious concerns.
To begin with, the legislation threatens the voluntary nature of Americorps by calling for consideration of "a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people." It anticipates the possibility of requiring "all individuals in the United States" to perform such service - including elementary school students. The bill also summons up unsettling memories of World War II-era paramilitary groups by saying the new program should "combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service," while establishing "campuses" that serve as "operational headquarters," complete with "superintendents" and "uniforms" for all participants. It allows for the elimination of all age restrictions in order to involve Americans at all stages of life. And it calls for creation of "a permanent cadre" in a "National Community Civilian Corps."
But that's not all. The bill also calls for "youth engagement zones" in which "service learning" is "a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency." This updated form of voluntary community service is also to be "integrated into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics curricula" at all levels of schooling. Sounds like a government curriculum for government approved "service learning," which is nothing less than indoctrination. Now, ask yourself if congressmen who voted for this monstrosity had a clue what they were voting for. If not, they're guilty of dereliction of duty. If yes, the implications are truly frightening.

So, as do many an internet meme on gunblogs, we look at what caliber would be useful against brownshirts.
I'm going to go with my AR for distance, my alley sweeper mid-range, and my Colt for close work.

Support Libertarian Candidates - Check.
Own a "Don't Tread on Me" Flag - Check
Believe the Income Tax Sucks - Check
Well then, I'm a member of a domestic paramilitary group. Who knew?

I'm a bit old and beat up to be in a domestic paramilitary group, but what the hell.
I do think that these fucks in this government need to start being a bit more careful about the language they use. Words can bite you on the ass. 1776 and all that. Live Free or Die.
...altho I think these statists are of a more Arbeit macht frei bent.
Only 2% over 50% of voters elected the asshole. This administration is acting like they have a 90% mandate to turn the country into France. Buy more Ammo (if you can find any), Hide the kids from the brownshirts, join the tea party, and hang on for a bumpy ride.
Unfortunately we have a long way to go before we reach Lady Thatchers' take on the inevitable end of socialism...They've got the usual Socialist disease-they've run out of other people's money. The statists are sure as hell trying to run out of our money...say goodbye to your 401K.

Terrorism is now a 'Man-Caused' Disaster?
The Global War on Terror is now an Overseas Contingency Operation
hmmmm....
OK, I can grok that.
This Administration is now full of incompetent assholes.
HR 1388 WAS PASSED!!!
The House passed a bill yesterday which includes disturbing language indicating young people will be forced to undertake mandatory national service programs as fears about President Barack Obama's promised "civilian national security force" intensify.
The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.
Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled "Duties," in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, "Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
And the magic asshole gets some of your guns...by regulation.

Pelosi Tells Illegal Immigrants That Work Site Raids are Un-American
The speaker of the House told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants recently that enforcement of immigration laws in the United States is "un-American."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is "un-American."
The speaker, condemning raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referred to the immigrants she was addressing as "very, very patriotic."
"Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?" Pelosi told a mostly Hispanic gathering at St. Anthony's Church in San Francisco.
Video: Click here to view the video of Pelosi speaking.
"It must be stopped....What value system is that? I think it's un-American. I think it's un-American."
Pelosi said she was invited to the church by Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., as part of his 17-city, cross-country tour called United Families, which he says is intended to put a human face on the immigration debate.
"We think that families are the cornerstone of our society and our nation, and an immigration system should preserve those families, not destroy them," Gutierrez told FOX News Capitol Hill Producer Chad Pergram on Tuesday.
The congressman is collecting petitions that ask President Obama to "stop the immigration raids and deportations that are tearing our marriages, families and children apart." He is expected to present those petitions when Hispanic members of Congress meet with the President Wednesday.
On Saturday night, Pelosi joined Gutierrez before a cheering crowd at St. Anthony's chanting, "Si se puede," or "Yes we can."
Referring to work site enforcement actions by ICE agents, Pelosi said, "We have to have a change in policy and practice and again ... I can't say enough, the raids must end. The raids must end.
"You are special people. You're here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country's future. That makes you very, very patriotic."
"I was embarrassed by what she said," said Rick Oltman, with Californians for Population Stabilization, an anti-illegal immigrant group. "Exhorting illegal aliens for taking responsibility for our country's future.... In fact, sitting there in the audience.... I really resented that comment."
"I think it was pandering to the crowd but also insulting to American citizens who consider themselves to be patriotic, who obey the rule of law," said Oltman, who shot a video of the rally.

Eligibility issue: McCain checked but not Obama
"There exists a possibility that Obama could be an illegal alien," the lawsuit said. "Obama has yet to adequately prove that he was born in the United States. [Further], Obama has publicly conceded that his father was born in Kenya and a British subject/citizen at the time of Obama's birth which precluded Obama from gaining any U.S. citizenship from his father."
The lawsuits over Obama's eligibility, in various ways, have alleged Obama does not meet the "natural born citizen" clause of the U.S. Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, which reads, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."
Some of the legal challenges have alleged Obama was not born in Hawaii, as he insists, but in Kenya. Obama's American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.
Other challenges have focused on Obama's citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.
Several details of Obama's past have added twists to the question of his eligibility and citizenship, including his family's move to Indonesia when he was a child and on what nation's passport he traveled to Pakistan in the '80s, as well as conflicting reports from Obama's family about his place of birth.

ALEX WITT: You know, John, and it's interesting because there are many who had such an optimstic and hopeful opinion of things, and you certainly can't expect things to change [snaps fingers] on a dime overnight, but there are many who suggested that with the outgoing Bush administration and the incoming Obama administration there would be something of a lull in terrorism attacks. There had been such a global outpouring of affection, respect, hope, with the new administration coming in, that precisely these kinds of attacks, it was thought -- at least hoped -- would be dampered down. But in this case it looks like Barack Obama is getting a preview of things to come.

A poll of nearly 2,000 Britons by YouGov/PHI found that 70 per cent of respondents incorrectly said it was true that the US had done a worse job than the European Union in reducing carbon emissions since 2000. More than 50 per cent presumed that polygamy was legal in the US, when it is illegal in all 50 states. . . .
The survey showed that a majority agreed with the false statement that since the Second World War the US had more often sided with non-Muslims when they had come into conflict with Muslims. In fact in 11 out of 12 major conflicts between Muslims and non-Muslims, Muslims and secular forces, or Arabs and non-Arabs, the US has sided with the former group. Those conflicts included Turkey and Greece, Bosnia and Yugoslavia, and and Kosovo and Yugoslavia.
Asked if it was true that "from 1973 to 1990 the United States sold Saddam Hussein more than a quarter of his weapons," 80 per cent of British respondents said yes. However the US sold just 0.46 per cent of Saddam's arsenal to him, compared to Russia's 57 per cent, France's 13 per cent and China's 12 per cent.

The U.S. Senate soon could be debating whether you, your spouse and each of your children - as well as your in-laws, parents, grandparents, neighbors and everyone else in America - each will be spending $2,500 or more to reduce poverty around the world.
The plan sponsored by Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the office of president, is estimated to cost the United States some $845 billion over the coming few years in an effort to raise the standard of living around the globe.
S.2433 already has been approved in one form by the U.S. House of Representatives, and now has been placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar for pending debate.
WND previously has reported the proposal demands the president develop "and implement" a policy to "cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief" and other programs.
Cliff Kincaid at Accuracy in Media has published a critique asserting that while the Global Poverty Act sounds nice, the adoption could "result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States" and would make levels "of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations."
He said the legislation, if approved, dedicates 0.7 percent of the U.S. gross national product to foreign aid, which over 13 years he said would amount to $845 billion "over and above what the U.S. already spends."
The plan passed the House in 2007 "because most members didn't realize what was in it," Kincaid reported. "Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require."
A recent statement from Obama's office noted the support offered by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
"With billions of people living on just dollars a day around the world, global poverty remains one of the greatest challenges and tragedies the international community faces," Obama said. "It must be a priority of American foreign policy to commit to eliminating extreme poverty and ensuring every child has food, shelter, and clean drinking water. As we strive to rebuild America's standing in the world, this important bill will demonstrate our promise and commitment to those in the developing world.
"Our commitment to the global economy must extend beyond trade agreements that are more about increasing profits than about helping workers and small farmers everywhere," he continued.
Obama has continued to lobby for such massive expenditures on his campaign stops. During an address as recently as last week, he said, "I'll double our foreign assistance to $50 billion by 2012, and use it to support a stable future in failing states, and sustainable growth in Africa; to halve global poverty and to roll back disease."
Beck and Kincaid pointed out that the plan not only commits the U.S. to the anti-poverty spending proposal, it also adopts for the U.S. the United Nations Millennium Development Goal, which includes a variety treaties and protocols advocated by the U.N.
Objections have remained strong. On a posting also available at the All American blogger, a commentator warned that the U.S. has yet to be able to win its own war on poverty.
"On January 8, 1964, President Lyndon Johnson declared "all-out war on human poverty and unemployment in these United States." This "all-out war" would last through the presidencies of Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, H.W. Bush, Clinton, and George W. Bush. We have spent billions of dollars fighting this war, and what have we achieved?"
He continued, "Very little. In 1964, there were 36 million Americans living in poverty, or about 19 percent of the population. In the 40 years between 1964 and 2004: ... poverty never measured less than 11 percent of the population. In 1983, under President Reagan, poverty registered 15.2 percent; in 1993, at the beginning of Bill Clinton's presidency, poverty was measured at 13.7 percent of the population. In 2004, under George W. Bush, a president often accused by the political Left as not caring about the poor, the poverty rate declined to 12.7 percent. Still, some 37 million Americans remain poor."
Despite that performance, "Obama is ready to take the fight global," said commentator Duane Lester.
"In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning 'small arms and light weapons' and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child," he wrote.
Tom DeWeese at NewsWithViews said the plan "is very telling" about what Obama would do as president.
DeWeese, president of the American Policy Center, warned the over-arching plan includes the ideals of consolidating all international agencies under the U.N., regulation by the U.N. of all corporate environmental issues, license fees charged by the U.N. to use air, water and natural resources, a restructuring that would give hand-picked non-governmental organizations huge influence, authorize a standing U.N. army and require registration of all arms.

American Thinker: Memory and the Left
The average leftist is not even aware of any of this. If asked about Iraq, he will drone through the standard run of slogans, none of which made much sense in the first place and now come across as sheer raving. But it doesn't matter. It worked with the famine, it worked with the purges, it worked with Nam, and it will work -- so they think -- with Iraq.
Fortunately, things have changed since the left's heyday. Haditha is not a forgotten name. That twelve-story pile of yellowcake is proving difficult to ignore. At one point, the left controlled virtually the entire national media sphere. This is no longer the case. If the new media is about anything, it is about discovering, highlighting, and promulgating the things that we're not supposed to know, the stories we're not supposed to think about, the events that are supposed to be forgotten. The Holodomor, the Great Purge, the Hue massacre -- all were buried because they could be. They cannot be buried anymore.
"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," he (Obama) said Wednesday. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."

Can you imagine what kind of idiot cop-wannabe would be attracted to that.
I expect the revolution would be blogged, and I wish I was younger. Shooting M'Bonga's brownshirts would be fun, but I'm getting a bit long in the tooth for that kind of activity.
Update: Down the memory hole

Why do some Americans feel that all is terrible in the state of our Union.
It seems to me that the better things get, the worse the screams of despair.
US child mortality is the lowest it has been since the mid Seventies.
The US poverty rate is the lowest it has been in over 20 years.
We no longer need to worry about a nuclear war with the Soviets.
The life expectancy has risen 4 decades in the past 160 years.
The USA's GNP has increased by better than a factor of 4 since my birth.
Polio was eradicated during my lifetime...and TB essentially before.
Would you like to argue that there have not been huge advances in medicine?
The world is a MUCH safer place than when I was born...can you say Global Thermonuclear War?
The environment is cleaner by every measure. Global Warming...it doesn't exist.
In 1903, accidental deaths by firearms came on at 3.1 per hundred thousand...by 1993 the rate was 0.6 per hundred thousand.
Why don't we do somethin? Why does nothing seem to get better? Who is to blame? Where is the gov'mint?
This is what you hear from the professional breast-beaters. And that is exactly what I believe it to be...a professional association of complainers.
When I was 14, John Kennedy demanded..."ask not what America can do for you, but what you can do for America." There were millions who responded.
That was just before a small minority of worthless lay-abouts became media darlings. Tune in, turn on, drop out...became the words of the day. Even though these were only the words of a small minority, they were given stature beyond their true worth.
I blame my generation, the media, and cowardly politicians.
American morality was hijacked by focusing angst on the war in Vietnam. I've got news for you children...not everyone was against kicking the crap out of the commies. Most of the country thought it was worthwhile just on general principles. It wasn't the body count that turned Americans against the war, it was the lack of will of the stinking, slimy, politicians to fight it right and fight it to the bitter end. The parents of those boys and girls dying in Vietnam were the same people who kicked the shit out of Japan and Germany...truely the greatest generation. They knew what losses were...but they also know when politicians were full of shit. Many of their children were spoiled and worthless...willing to sell their freedoms for hot-tubs and sweet, sweet, words. All of our current poor crop of politicians are from my generation.
Understand no matter how good things get, the professional whiners will never stop. As long as there is one poor child, one threatened Snail Darter, one gun in the hands of a free man, or one minor accident that could have been prevented by a 500 million dollar government program...these whiners will be with us. Its their job.
I hope our children do better.
