The Nuance is giving me a Headache...
Yesterday on Brett Baier's show, Mara Liason played Obama-apologist by claiming that Obama didn't really want Chavez crony Zelaya returned to power; he really wanted him deposed, and was happy with the outcome. However, she contended, he was displeased by the way it was accomplished, and furthermore, needed to say he supported the re-installation of Zelaya. Even though he didn't.
I thought words mattered?

Glenn Beck said yesterday there were provisions in the bill that established national building codes based on CA "green codes" that all new houses would have to meet. Also, any old house sold would also have to be inspected by the federal code man and be updated to meet the new codes before it could be sold.

Fuck me!  My house is 99 years old.  The wall studs are cedar with bark on two sides in the oldest part of the house.  Insulation is only in the areas I have renovated.  I've got three visible roof structures up in the attic.   Much of the electric wiring is the old style cloth covering. It would be cheaper for me to burn it to the ground and build again.

I'm finding this Honduras situation interesting.

Mr. Zelaya, an ally of Venezuela's populist President Hugo Chavez, has been locked in an increasingly bitter battle with the rest of Honduras's political establishment, including members of his own party, over the president's plans to hold a referendum to scrap the constitution and potentially allow re-election, something currently barred under Honduran law.

Honduran SC and Honduras Congress tell the president something he is doing is illegal and unconstitutional.
Honduran president continues along anyway.
Honduran SC orders the military to throw him out of the country
Honduran Congress appoints a temp president until elections in November.
Obama joins Chavez and all the other leftists in support of ousted Honduran president.

That's a nice blueprint.  Does our military have one way flights to Venezuela?

the Honduran Constitution:

Title VII, with two chapters, outlines the process of amending the constitution and sets forth the principle of constitutional inviolability. The constitution may be amended by the National Congress after a two-thirds vote of all its members in two consecutive regular annual sessions.

That is what Zelaya tried to bypass.

From Donald Sensing...

What people here don't understand is that the Honduran constitution specifies clear roles for the military in maintaining constitutional order and rule of law, including the administration of national balloting and enforcement of the strict provision of a single term for the president.

Constitutionally, the military had no choice but to refuse to administer the illegal referendum. Zelaya ordered the chief of the general staff to hold the referendum. He refused. Zelaya fired him, which was immediately ruled illegal by the supreme court. Zelaya refused to reinstate the general. Then the heads of the services promptly resigned in protest.

Last Thursday, Zelaya personally led a mob to the warehouse where the Venezuelan-supplied ballots were stored by the army. Taking them by force, Zelaya had his minions distribute them to polling places - also unconstitutional since only the military can administer polling.

Realizing a clear crisis was upon them, the court nullified Zelaya's office, as authorized by the constitution, and with the support of the entire government directed the army to remove Zelaya from office.

It has been entirely overlooked that the constitution requires the military to enforce the single-term law of the presidency.

The Honduran military has since the 1840s (just after the country's independence from Spain) been charged with enforcing civil law and order. In this sense the military forms the equivalent of the US Marshall Service and Honduran battalion commanders serve not only as strictly military commanders but as sheriffs of their districts.

This administration is a dangerous embarrassment.

Harsanyi: How to lie with statistics

45 percent of the uninsured are uninsured for four months or less.

Another portion of uninsured Americans already qualify for an existing government health insurance program — and government already controls 46 percent of spending on health care - for which they have not signed up.

The Urban Institute (hardly advocates of free-market fundamentalism) found that 25 percent of the uninsured qualify for some program.

Turns out that 8.4 million uninsured Americans are making $50,000 to $74,999 and 9.1 million more are making more than $75,000. Health insurance is just incompatible with their lifestyles.

27 percent of all adults in their 20s (many, I presume, without offspring) choose not to have health insurance.

...and this does not even note that 20 Million are illegal aliens

The Obama administration last night detailed a series of proposals to involve the government more deeply in private markets...

And the administration would increase its coordination with other nations to prevent businesses from migrating to less regulated venues.

So they're going to regulate and tax you to death, and make sure you can't get away from it.

Here's something to worry about.

Don't Hide from the Message
Posted by Frank J. on May 20, 2009 at 1:26 pm

I don't like moderates. I'd wish they'd all get hit by buses and end up in comas until election day when they can vote for us and get hit by a bus again. That probably won't happen, so I'll just say don't listen to their message about moderating what we stand for. The big advantage conservatives have over liberals is that we don't have to hide from our message.

Liberals can never say exactly what they want because it's scary. That's why they don't work on talk radio. If they say what they're goals are unfiltered, it even scares themselves. Look at college campuses; if liberals were unrestrained, is there any doubt their final goal would be socialism and fascism? They inch into any control they can have about our finances and behavior and clamp down on it like wolverines never letting go, but they never talk about their ultimate goals except in the vaguest terms ("Change and happiness!") because they're well aware of how much it would freak people out. They want socialism and government control, but they just don't want to state it that way.

Conservative ideals can be stated frankly, though, and not send people running. It can be a little scary - freedom and responsibility is scary - but it's an argument people will accept. So while liberals dance around what they want, we need to state frankly what our goals are. Lay out a real vision for the future to inspire people.

OUR VISION

* Government should be as small as possible and we need to take control of our own lives and finances.

* Any country that messes with us should be brutalized to the point we get world wide condemnation.

* Anyone against this is a sissy and should be punched in the nads.

Spread the word!

Born in the USA?

I don't think so.

2nd congressman: Prove eligibility

WND has reported on dozens of legal challenges to Obama's status as a "natural born citizen." The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."

Some of the lawsuits question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama's American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Other challenges have focused on Obama's citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

Complicating the situation is Obama's decision to spend sums estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to avoid releasing a state birth certificate that would put to rest all of the questions.

Here are a few of many examples of what a patriotic American president does not do:

Bankrupt this country and court massive inflation in order to implement his vision of a fascist/socialist nation.
Sit on his hands with a straight face while a South American thug insults his country.
Appoint America-haters to his cabinet.
Cozy up to a soon-to-be-nuclear-armed Iranian madman.
Impotently watch the probably-already-nuclear-armed North Korean Stalinists lob a ballistic missile across the Pacific.
Fail to stanch the flow of illegal aliens across the Mexican-United States border.
Cut the defense budget.
Strangle innovation during a serious recession by raising taxes.
Close Guantanamo Bay without a clue of how to handle the enemy combatants incarcerated there.
Publicly announce what measures military and CIA interrogators can use to extract information from terrorists.
Apologize to the world for what has made America great and grovel to persons, nations. and institutions unfit to shine our shoes!
Cede American sovereignty to the American-hating United Nations.
Defy the Second Amendment and a Supreme Court decision by making an end run that substantially reduces the supply of certain ammunition.
Repudiate the policy and practice of missile shield installation."

NY Post writer Ralph Peters, a former military intelligence officer, sums up the hate-America core tenets of the "Obama Doctrine" as follows:

(1) We're to blame,
(2) Problems can be negotiated away,
(3) Problems that can't be talked out can be bought off,
(4) Islamist terrorism doesn't exist,
(5) It's all our fault,
(6) Israel's the obstacle to Middle East peace,
(7) Our nukes threaten world peace and we need to get rid of them,
(8) Our military is dangerous,
(9) Our intelligence services are even more dangerous than our military,
(10) It's only torture if we do it, and
(11) Blame President George W. Bush.

Obama is doing many things to demoralize and destabilize America:

The timing of and the release of the torture memos and photographs, revisiting the trauma of this once again
Mandatory service bill
The budget and bailout mess for which taxpayers are on the hook
The intervention of government in banking, the auto industry, and health care
The resettling of Palestinians in America at taxpayers expense
The release of GITMO prisoners into American cities
The failure to respond to the pirate hostage ordeal
DHS accusations that Americans who believe in the Constitution are threats and potential terrorists
The buzzing of New York with Air Force One
The threat to prosecute past administration officials, never done in American history but very similar to that actions that occur after a coup in other countries

What he's done worldwide could be deemed treason:

In France, Obama told his audience that America "has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive" toward Europe.

In Prague, Obama - in true utopian-kindergarten fashion - pledged "with conviction" that America will "seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons." In other words, destroy big bad America's ability to defend itself!

In London, Obama made clear that the world's financial wealth was no longer made by those inferior leaders Roosevelt and Churchill, effectively ceding America's leading role in creating and sharing wealth to nations that have never measured up to our country's bountiful generosity or spirit of free-market entrepreneurship.

In Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Obama sat passively while the Marxist Chavez handed him an American-bashing book and delivered another revile-America speech, while never once rising to defend our country.

In Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Obama again sat passively while the Marxist Ortega blamed the United States for a century of what he called terroristic U.S. aggression in Central America, again emitting not a whisper of defense on our country's behalf.

In Turkey, Obama said -- incredibly and inaccurately -- that America was not a Christian nation.
And in his recent trip to Mexico, Obama said that the escalating border violence was essentially America's fault.

Obama abrogated America's strategic commitment to the defense of our ally Japan when his administration reacted to North Korea's ballistic missile test by saying the U.S. would only shoot the missile down if it targeted U.S. territory.

Obama slapped our ally India when he refused to make ending Pakistan's support for jihadist terror groups attacking India a central component of its strategy for contending with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Obama failed to assure our ally Iraq that democracy and freedom will be secured before U.S. forces are withdrawn next year.

Obama de facto abandoned our allies in Eastern Europe when he announced his intention to forge a new alliance with Russia. "The Czech, Polish, Georgian and Ukrainian governments," Glick says, "were quick to recognize that Obama's strong desire to curry favor with the Kremlin and weaken his own country will imperil their ability to withstand Russian aggression."

Obama "is sacrificing the U.S.'s alliance with our ally Israel "in a bid to appease the Arabs and Iran by supporting the immediate establishment of a Palestinian state," which, Glick warns, "requires Israel to commit national suicide in exchange for 'peace.'" Obama also made clear "that from the administration's perspective, an Israeli strike that prevents Iran from becoming a nuclear power is less acceptable than a nuclear-armed Iran." In addition, Obama sent Hamas $900 million of foreign aid, "channeled through the UNRWA, a United Nations front filled with Hamas operatives"

Obama slapped our ally England when he returned the bust of Winston Churchill to Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Obama slapped our ally Colombia and its president Alvaro Uribe when he refused to submit the free trade deal with Bogota to the Senate.

Obama managed to do all of this in 100 days. Just imagine what he can accomplish in his next 1360 days? It boggles the mind. Will we have a country left?
I Did Not Vote for Barack Obama

By Alan Caruba

Whenever I am feeling a bit despondent and need to shake off the mood, I remind myself that I did not vote for Barack Hussein Obama.

The other day, feeling buyer's remorse, I returned an item I had purchased and requested credit. It looked so good in the catalog, but turned out to be a bad idea. While those who voted for Obama are said to still regard him quite fondly, one suspects large numbers of them are experiencing the same feeling. I, however, did not vote for Barack Hussein Obama.

I did not vote for the feckless lad who sent Air Force One to buzz New York City, accompanied by a fighter jet, neglectful of the panic that would ensue among people who had a sudden frightening flashback to 9/11.

I did not vote for the man whose choices for his cabinet and advisers included tax cheats and others who have been an on-going succession of embarrassments. His science adviser went on record suggesting we shoot stuff into the atmosphere to stop global warming. His Environmental Adviser and EPA Director want to regulate carbon dioxide as "a pollutant" and threat to health. (We each exhale about six pounds of CO2 every day.)

I did not vote for the man whose Energy Secretary was gleeful over the prospect of $8-a-gallon gasoline prices or whose Homeland Security choice thinks entering the United States illegally is not a crime and returning veterans of the Iraq War are potential "extremists."

I did not vote for the man whose constant use of a TelePrompter has become a running joke, accurately revealing that he is frequently unable to communicate well without one.

I did not vote for the man who, in the first three months of office, has requested three prime time televised press conferences. The ratings for each successive one dipped precipitously while he droned on providing "answers" that mostly blamed the previous administration for everything.

I did not vote for the man who has essentially thrown Poland, Tibet, and Israel under the bus while opening the door to Cuba. His globe-trotting rapidly became known as "The Apology Tour." At one point, in Turkey, he announced that America was not "a Christian nation" when any reading of history reveals it was founded by Christians, all its Presidents have been Christians (until now?), and the vast bulk of the population are Christians.

I did not vote for the man who signed a "stimulus" bill with 8,570 "earmarks" after having campaigned against wasteful spending. He deemed it "imperfect."

I did not vote for the man whose budget, by Congressional Budget Office calculations, would generate deficits averaging almost $1 trillion a year in red ink over 2010-2019; about $9.3 trillion in deficits over the next decade; more than four times the deficits of the Bush presidency.

I did not vote for the man who has taken control of Chrysler and General Motors while handing majority ownership of the former to the United Auto Workers union. At the same time, he denounced "hedge funds" who act as the fiduciaries for pensioners, teacher's credit unions, personal retiree accounts, college endowments, etc. It is these investments which by law should receive first consideration that Obama dismisses.

I did not vote for the man who precipitously closed "Gitmo" but had no idea where to transfer its current detainees, nor did I vote for the man who released memos concerning "enhanced" interrogation techniques, depicting the nation as one that endorsed torture. On average, the detainees have gained twenty pounds during their stay and some of those previously released have gone back to their terrorist trade.

I did not vote for the man who thinks Afghanistan is the new "front" in the global war on terror, ignoring the defeat that caused the former Soviet Union to collapse.

I did not vote for the man whose Interior and Energy Secretaries have rescinded the move to open up our offshore continental shelf to exploration and extraction of what is estimated to be billions of barrels of oil and even greater volumes of natural gas while at the same time restricting the mining of new, vast deposits of coal.

I did not vote for the man who refuses to release his birth certificate and a list of other documents that would ordinarily be available for public perusal.

The list of reasons why I did not vote for Obama is growing daily and, despite his current personal popularity, is generating grave misgivings among the same public for his policies and the legislative agenda of the Democrat Party, much of which is an attack on talk radio, the Internet, and private enterprise.

My conclusion is that Obama, for all his academic credentials, is either very stupid or very anti-American, or both.

AP- WASHINGTON D.C. - In a move certain to fuel the debate over Obama's qualifications for the presidency, the group Americans for Freedom of Information has released copies of President Obama's college transcripts from Occidental College. Released today, the transcript indicates that Obama, under the name Barry Soetoro, received financial aid as a foreign student from Indonesia as an undergraduate at the school. The transcript was released by Occidental College in compliance with a court order in a suit brought by the group in the Superior Court of California. The transcript shows that Obama (Soetoro) applied for financial aid and was awarded a fellowship for foreign students from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship program. To qualify, for the scholarship, a student must claim foreign citizenship. This document would seem to provide the smoking gun that many of Obama's detractors have been seeking.

http://thearizonasentinel.com/2009/05/02/obama-receives-foreign-student-tuition-aid/

Probably too good to be true, but WTF...if he won't release ANY transcripts or birth certificates, he's going to see stuff like this forever.

The trouble with this desire for retribution isn't that it goes too far. The trouble is that it doesn't go far enough. There is another group -- a large one -- that stood by doing nothing while Americans grabbed people off the streets of foreign countries, took them to other foreign countries (because we don't allow this sort of thing in the United States!) and tortured them until they said whatever our government wanted to hear. If you're going to punish people for condoning torture, you'd better include the American citizenry itself.

Sixty-two million of us voted to reelect George W. Bush in 2004. That was more people than had ever voted for a presidential candidate up until then. (In 2008, Obama got 69 million.) Unlike 2000, Bush's 2004 victory was solid and unambiguous.

Come and get me you communist tool.  It has now come to the point when well know leftist columnists are calling for the prosecution and punishment of Americans who voted 'wrong'.  This point of view conveniently forgets that 'rendition and torture' were started by the Clinton Administration.  It's all about resisting the gentle rule of the Great Leader, M'Bonga the One.  A ruler who has no problem using the Media as a personal tool to punish nay-sayers.

You know, I was missing the great enemy which had defined my life up until about '89 when the Berlin Wall came down.  I see that they are back.  Cool, and close too.

Bring it, Bitches.  You are making it easy.

I got into a discussion today with a leftist tool.

Said tool was waxing eloguent over the Death Of The GOP. I noticed several times the latest tool talking point that the GOP=Conservatives.

While talking to tools is always an exercise in futility, it did get me thinking.

The tool wasn't exactly wrong.

The problem is, he's only talking about a couple of hundred thousand people. Conservatives themselves could give a frack less if the GOPs current incarnation dies - and good riddance.

There was a poll out yesterday or today stating that something approaching 70% of registered Republicans think the leadership is out of touch with the rank and file. Said leadership being the GOP.

The GOP will conform to the conservative base or it will die. Personally I don't care...it's become the party of Dim-lite anyway. Conservative people don't even identify themselves as Republicans anymore.

...and therein we begin to see what is coming.

The leftist tools of socialism have forced people to self-identify by ideology now, not by party. That is an un-intended consequence they don't want.  They think that by marginalizing the GOP, conservative voices will become silent.

Political parties can wait a few years to get back in power. Ideologies can brook no competition.

Culture war is here. Worse is coming.

Today's cell wallpaper.

WHITE HOUSE THUGGERY: A transcript of the key bit from bankruptcy lawyer Tom Lauria's radio interview.

UPDATE: This passage strikes me:

One of my clients was directly threatened by the White House and in essence compelled to withdraw its opposition to the deal under the threat that the full force of the White House Press Corps would destroy its reputation if it continued to fight.

How does the supposedly independent White House Press Corps feel to know that it's being wielded as a weapon by Obama's operatives? Might it at least be interested in looking into these allegations?

This Guy Makes Nixon Look Like An Amateur.

An analogy to drive home how weak this silly shit is:

To put those numbers in perspective, imagine that the head of a household with annual spending of $100,000 called everyone in the family together to deal with a $34,000 budget shortfall. How much would he or she announce that spending had be cut? By $3 over the course of the year--approximately the cost of one latte at Starbucks. The other $33,997? We can put that on the family credit card and worry about it next year.

The American Legion Strongly Opposed to President's Plan to Charge Wounded Heroes for Treatment

I'm a vet.  I was never hurt.  Even so, each day that goes by this waste-of-an-election administration amazes me by its ignorance of anything remotely considered to be American values.

Wounded - Vets - Required - To - Pay - For - Their - Own - Care.

Unbelievable.

Rope - Tree - Some Assembly Required

This from Shots Across The Bow

Now all that posturing and outright lying would be bad enough, but this latest dodge just turns my stomach. He actually wants to force American soldiers, wounded in the line of duty, to pay for their own treatment using their private insurance.

You know, one of the reasons I got out of the military after almost 9 years was that with the election of BIll Clinton, I knew my veterans benefits would come under attack. But it never even crossed my mind that any sitting President, even a leftist twit like Obama would go so far as to try and take medical benefits away from soldiers, sailors, marines, or airmen wounded or injured on active duty. I didn't think anyone could be that evil.

Once again, I underestimated the foul depths of the liberal mind. How can anyone have seriously conceived of this plan? And taken it seriously enough to allow a trial balloon to float? And even more importantly, how can anyone continue to support a President who thinks that this is a good idea? If you still support this President, then don't dare try to tell me how much you really support the troops because you are a lying hypocrite if you do.

In the world of science fiction, there are stories of individuals who have 'left the grid' using high-capacity, quick charge battery devices which allowed them to be self-sufficient in societies with extremely intrusive governments.  Combination battery-capacitor devices...instant charge with a long, slow, and high-energy level discharge. Well, we've got the intrusive government part down pat so far.

Obama's Victory

A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers every where. A victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his
achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising over reality.

A victory for Hollywood , the most dysfunctional community in the world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros and Sarandon. Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those who settle for group think and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with meager political fashion.

Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have already stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced, without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement. Like most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are drastically liberal and anti-conservative. Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as pornography should be censored, so should talk radio. In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression
may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and opposition.

A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is sufficiently weak towards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity.

A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs.

Congratulations America !

How to treat President Bush, I mean President Obama

First, demonize him and ascribe his motives to evil and malfeasance, not just policy differences. We should proclaim often and loudly that he is not our president, that he stole the election and he has no mandate. We should repeat false stories about him, no matter how crazy or wrong, until they are accepted as common wisdom. We should create lies and urban legends to smear him and demean him. We should ridicule any verbal slips or gaffes, and ascribe them to his native stupidity and intellectual vapidity. We should accuse him of every sin and crime under the sun and attempt to have him impeached for policy differences, which we should call crimes. We should undermine any programs he wants to pass by misstating their goals and content. We should take quotes out of context to make him seem ridiculous and to make him seem mean-spirited. We should repeat often that he doesn't care about people who aren't the same race as he is, and that he is only out for his own kind. We should claim that he is going to try to force a coup and take over the country by force. We should claim he's going to lock up any dissenters. We should loudly scream about losing our rights and interfere with his speechs and disrupt any gatherings of his party. Our politicians should cynically misstate his policies to make him look bad.

Hah, Samizdata

...or as Ann Coulter promises

For now, we have a new president-elect. In the spirit of reaching across the aisle, we owe it to the Democrats to show their president the exact same kind of respect and loyalty that they have shown our recent Republican president.
