Comments of the Day...

So consider this, my fellows in arms: On Tuesday, the Left - armed with the most attractive, eloquent, young, hip, and charismatic candidate I have seen with my adult eyes, a candidate shielded by a media so overtly that it can never be such a shield again, who appeared after eight years of a historically unpopular President, in the midst of two undefended wars and at the time of the worst financial crisis since the Depression and whose praises were sung by every movie, television, and musical icon without pause or challenge for 20 months ... who ran against the oldest nominee in the country's history, against a campaign rent with internal disarray and determined not to attack in the one area where attack could have succeeded, and who was out-spent no less than seven-to-one in a cycle where not a single debate question was unfavorable to his opponent - that historic victory, that perfect storm of opportunity ...

Yielded a result of 53 percent.

- Capt Morgan

I think the Democrats privately don't really believe that there have yet been vast structural changes, so they will ensure they occur: get rid of talk radio via the fairness doctrine; trials and hearings for former Bush officials; open borders and amnesty or 'earned citizenship,' and no more secret ballots for union members. All of that could help to ensure lasting Democratic majorities-and I think we will see it all come to pass.

-VDH

My Day...

One of my readers asked me to include some computer stuff on the blog, so on days I do something interesting I'll do so.

I am spending a couple of days covering for the NetAdmin at a well known company. He's recovering from surgery. Today and tomorrow his 2nd is out also.

Today I installed Backup Exec on a couple of HP 64 bit Windows 2003 servers. I did not build the servers, but I did install them as Domain Controllers a month or two ago. About a year ago I installed a Reo NAS for these guys and built another BUE server to backup to shared iSCSI storage (superfast)

Note: Installation of BUE failed on one machine because it had (dot)Net v2 sp1 installed. I had to remove SP1 to get installation to work BUE installs its own (dot)Net v2.0.

I installed and configured a couple of 400 GB SCSI tape drives and inventoried and labeled 10 tapes. I created backup jobs and ran a BU of each machine. At 500 GB/min, it went pretty quick...fast machines. Remember to test the restore function.

Note: The default for media sets is to "never overwrite". You have to set the media set to "append then overwrite" as well as setting the timeout for "overwrite protection" to a time low enough to expire before the tape is used again.

Took a couple of hours.

The rest of the time today I worked (remotely) on configuring LiveMeeting on a Communications Server and figuring out why the LiveMeeting update wouldn't work on my laptop (you can't have LiveMeeting Outlook Add-on on the same machine you have Exchange Management Console on - and I've got shitloads of Management programs on my laptop).. I did some troubleshooting on a DNS replication problem, fixed a big honkin' Kyocera printer, investigated a Bluetooth connectivity problem, and tested (unsuccessfully) an AirCard.

I have no clue yet what I will do there tomorrow. Friday I'm hoping to upgrade a ASA5510 Cisco Firewall to a version that will allow it to accept Cisco AnyConnect VPN clients, and configure the IOS to do so. Fun Stuff for me. I'd like to fix the Bluetooth connectivity problem too, but that's more difficult...the Treo model phone I'm dealing with specifically blocks the feature I want...but I think I found a tweak on a forum.

That's pretty much my typical day...just replace what I did with anything else you can think of...hardware from Firewalls to SANs, software from client stuff to Server based, everyday is new. Most times I have no idea what I'm doing...but I know the secret - no one else knows what I'm doing either.

Update: On the way home I get a call that a company's email server has crashed right in the middle of a buyout. When I get home I remote into their system and fix the problem in about an hour and a half. The owner of that company calls one of our directors to thank him for the fast reaction. Our director didn't realize it had been fixed already.

Sometimes things go right.

Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our president.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle''.

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, and he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there to begin with'.

Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

Oopsy, the joke is on us...

How to treat President <strike>Bush</strike>, I mean President Obama

First, demonize him and ascribe his motives to evil and malfeasance, not just policy differences. We should proclaim often and loudly that he is not our president, that he stole the election and he has no mandate. We should repeat false stories about him, no matter how crazy or wrong, until they are accepted as common wisdom. We should create lies and urban legends to smear him and demean him. We should ridicule any verbal slips or gaffes, and ascribe them to his native stupidity and intellectual vapidity. We should accuse him of every sin and crime under the sun and attempt to have him impeached for policy differences, which we should call crimes. We should undermine any programs he wants to pass by misstating their goals and content. We should take quotes out of context to make him seem ridiculous and to make him seem mean-spirited. We should repeat often that he doesn't care about people who aren't the same race as he is, and that he is only out for his own kind. We should claim that he is going to try to force a coup and take over the country by force. We should claim he's going to lock up any dissenters. We should loudly scream about losing our rights and interfere with his speechs and disrupt any gatherings of his party. Our politicians should cynically misstate his policies to make him look bad.

Hah, Samizdata

...or as Ann Coulter promises

For now, we have a new president-elect.
Comment of the Day...

So Obama won. It's not the end of the world. Everybody chill out.

1) It's hardly a popular vote blowout. McCain kept it close in a tough anti-republican climate, and there's a still a significant proportion of the population that's with us, nearly 50%, in fact.

2) If Barack does win, he do so only by pretending to be a centrist and a tax-cutter. And that lie is going to be exposed riki-tik. By 2010, the entire country will know just how liberal Obama is, and the pendulum will swing. It'll be up to us to see that it swings far enough.

3) It's important to remember that we're conservatives, not liberals, or "progressives" or whatever they're calling themselves this week.

Politics isn't our life, and if we lose an election cycle, we're still going to be happier as a group then they will ever be, even after they've won this one.

Like they always do, hardcore liberal voters have placed all their hopes and dreams into one, terribly flawed, terribly human basket. And without doubt they will be terribly disappointed, especially when they learn they've still got to pay their own mortgage and buy their own gas.

Their Messiah, ain't one, which will become painfully apparent to them soon enough.

Meanwhile, here on the right, we have low expectations of human nature and even lower expectations of government. It's hard to disappoint us.

And unlike the liberals, all of our hopes and dreams are in exactly the same place they were yesterday, in our family, our friends, our local community, in our work, in our religious faith, and in our country. Those are the great constants, always there for us even when we suffer the greatest of setbacks.

Yep, tough times are ahead, and we're going to have to fight like somsabitches to keep Obama and the Congress from screwing things up too much in the next two years. But, we've been there before, and we've prevailed before.

4) Don't give the fucktards on the left the satisfaction of seeing you all act like a bunch of hysterical schoolgirls. They're the ones who can't take defeat. We can take our lumps, get up, and keep fighting. We should be Happy Warriors. whose proper response to this is mockery, good humor, and hard work. We lost and elction, but we're still right, and they're still wrong.

Anyway, it's time to cowboy up, and get ready for the next go round.

-DelD on Ace

Trainers Comment: Buy Guns
